About Finch
Every so often, I’m forced to explain what I do for a living, either to a distant relative or a bemused reader. My answer seems to depend on a combination of how lazy I feel, and how professional the context of the conversation may be. I’ve been known to use any of the following airy fairy job descriptions:

- Internet Marketing
- Affiliate Marketing
- Digital Advertising
- Online Advertising
- E-Commerce
Well shit, I guess they all sound semi-professional. But to an outsider, none of these titles offer a truly satisfying depiction of what happens between my 9 and 5. I’ve come to terms with the fact that outsiders will never understand the gist of my business, least not how I manage to sustain it from the sanctuary of Costa Coffee.
That’s okay. I feel the same about rocket science.
So let’s quit talking professional and start talking benefits. My job allows me to sit at home, on my arse, in my boxers, munching scones, with a cup of tea, planting magic beans in cyberspace, that somehow blossom in to pennies in my bank account by the end of each month. It’s like photosynthesis. You don’t need to understand how. Just know that it works.
My “Professional” Background
I am a former web developer. No, retired web developer. If I ever have to open Notepad to sift through HTML or ASP again, I’ll know that I’ve failed. I don’t mean that as a dig against developers. I was simply never built from a mould that could plunge in to books of brick-thick programming references and come up not feeling nauseous.
I quit my London agency job in 2009, pretty much in the middle of the recession. Business hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve never regretted the decision. Since then, I’ve carved a system for making money online. No doubt you’ll be glad to hear, that unlike every other blogger in this arsehole of a niche, I have no interest in selling it to you.
This blog is purely my collection of thoughts, inspirations, brainfarts and crazy ideas. If you’re trying to make a living from the Internet, I hope they can somehow point you in the right direction. But I’m not going to guarantee even the slightest figment of good will come out of being here.
Stuff You Don’t Really Need to Know
I’m 23 years old, and currently living in London, England – the sleepy town of Ruislip Manor to be exact. I’ve used my flexible career to travel the world, having spent 7 months living in Thailand, and traipsing around South East Asia with my best dumbfounded gaze in tact.
I love the idea of traveling. And I love the idea of making money passively without having to commute to work. It can be a lonely existence, but so can sitting in a heaving office when your heart is not in it.
There are times where I still respond to ‘Coding Monkey’, an eternal reminder of the complete disinterest I had for my previous jobs. This memory always re-enforces how lucky I am. I have a job that doesn’t involve work. Waking up is easy when you love what you do.
My goal, far-fetched as it may sound, is to be a published author. Writing is my passion. It’s where I see my future. If I can find a way to make writing a legitimate full-time income, you’ll hear about it here first. Until then, you can consider me just another Internet Marketing scumbag.
I hope you enjoy the blog.
